Recently, I conducted market research recently on Crafts. During the process I learned that not many African Americans or ethnic crafts have been published in craft books.

Craft Books for African American quilting exist, but there is little on doll making, knitting and crocheting, or toys.

Good news, today I learned that a large publisher are launching two new books - one about dolls and the other about soft crafts for children and youth.

The Doll Book will be authored by Ellen Brown who has a site The Doll Loft http://www.thedollloft.com and Candace Marquette will author the book on Crafts, her site is Candy Pursue http://www.candypurse.com.

I congratulate these women and I hope any of you who knit will join Ravelry.com and other sites related to crafts to become visible.

Recently, Mahogany Moma (not to be confused with Mahogany Baby) has added online community to their format.

As much as we need to have sites specifically for our community, we also need to be engaged in the mainstream to have our voices heard and to be positive influences.

With that said a new site is launching called Cultural Crafts & Collectors Online and it will bring together crafter's and collectors from around the world. September 8, 2008 see www.culturalcraftsonline.com - Join our online community.

Prosperity to you all.
